Pink Power & The Art of the Scarf Collection for Breast Cancer Awareness
I hope you’re having a beautiful day & staying warm despite the cold front.
As you may all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month but what you may not know is that according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Breast Cancer is the most common type of Cancer apart from Skin Cancer. It is one of the most common causes of death from cancer, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will get diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime & your risk goes up with age.
While you must have heard about the multiple symptoms to watch for that may indicate Breast Cancer (e.g. a lump, dimpling, retraction of nipple, abnormal discharge), the biggest thing you need to focus on is prevention & early detection for early diagnosis & treatment. This is achieved by doing routine screening such as monthly breast self-exams when you’re not on your period to assess for any changes/abnormality in your breast tissue, annual clinical breast exams and annual mammograms starting at age 40 or as young as 35 if you have a family history of Breast Cancer.
Although we have very little control on our genetics & our reproductive factors, we can do our best to maintain great health and prevent cancers by avoiding exposures to toxins from your environment, the air you breath by avoid smoking & highly polluted areas, limit your alcohol intake, be aware of what type of products you are putting on your body, maintain a balanced diet, increase physical activity, manage your weight to prevent obesity, know your body, family history and have a Primary Care Provider (PCP) who you see at least annually for a wellness exam or sooner for acute or chronic health challenges you may have.
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Talbot’s decided to collaborate with 5 female artists to create classic but unique silk scarfs to represent the honor & strength of all the women who have battled Breast Cancer. This is a cause that’s also dear to me because of my loved ones who have been affected by this directly & indirectly.
This collection of scarfs is called “The Art of the Scarf” & from now til October 31st 2018, 20% of all proceeds from their sales goes to the National Breast Cancer Foundation @nbcf which is such a great cause.
For my look today, I’m wearing the Annie Davidson Scarf which was one of my favorite scarfs from the collection. What I loved most, was the artwork of a road map showing different types of women from all walks of life with empowering words to describe them because regardless of background, race or ethnicity, the burden of Breast Cancer affects us all.
Also, as a symbol for Breast Cancer Awareness and my collaboration with Talbots to raise awareness, I decide to wear this beautiful Pink Blazer Dress from ASOS with the scarf to honor Breast Cancer Survivors and paired it with bold Cobalt Blue Shoedazzle Shoes & this Multicolored Zara Crossbody Bag.
I hope you enjoyed reading this & if you haven’t seen your PCP this year, make an appointment before the year ends to get evaluated. Also click the product pictures below to Shop the Collection & support these women who could easily be your grandmothers, mums, aunts, sisters, daughters or even yourself.
As I always say, “Love is in the action you take & not just the words you speak”. I appreciate you all for your love & support, have a blessed week.
