Alopecia Awareness & Wig Review
As we transition to a new month and new season, I’d like to highlight an issue that I experience and live with daily like millions of men and women, which is Alopecia (Hair Loss). By the age of 40, more than 40% of women and 60% of men have visible hair loss which can be temporary or permanent.
Hair loss can be a normal part of aging, heredity or as a result from a very stressful life event, trauma to the head, scalp, hairstyles, hormonal changes (during pregnancy, post partum, or in polycystic ovarian syndrome), medical conditions (like an autoimmune or thyroid disease) or from chemicals and drugs (like radiation, certain medications and supplements for chronic health conditions).
Hair loss is something that can psychologically affect people and make them unhappy (both men and women) although it’s more acceptable to see a man bald than a woman. So many people with hair loss may cover it up with hairstyles, makeup, hats or scarves, and some choose to treat it to prevent further hair loss or restore growth. Regardless of what you choose, I encourage you to talk with your healthcare provider first about the cause of your hair loss and treatment options.
Since September is Alopecia Awareness Month, I’m sharing a little bit about my experience with Alopecia with a review of a new wig I just added to my collection from Amazon.
