How to Style Ankara for Spring – Blogger Collabo with Queen of Sleeves
Hello Style Lovers!
There is no better time to wear Ankara (African Wax Print Fabrics) than during Spring. The spectrum of colors and vibrant prints and patterns create a bright, bold and beautiful look that is the essence of Spring.
As a West African woman born in Nigeria, these fabrics are part of my heritage and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve infused my culture into my closet with more functional clothes made from these fabrics. I love to incorporate pieces of Ankara into my every day look since they can be used to make any clothing item or accessories and today I’ll share a few tips on how you can too.
For today’s post, I decided to collaborate with one of my fashion blogger friends @QueenofSleeves in Houston. Apart from sharing the same name “Nneka”, we also share a similar heritage and sense of style. Nneka is a Government Lawyer who loves to wear prints that are functional for the modern woman and she also has mastered the art of wearing African prints. This was such a fun photoshoot and I enjoyed working with another Ankara lover like me, so make sure you check out her blog.
Today’s tips on how to style Ankara for Spring
- Ankara clothes of the same print can be worn together in a matching set like the shorts and blazer I’m wearing. This is bold but safer when talking about mixing print because you’re wearing the same pattern and the same color. It’s definitely a conversational starter.
- Ankara can be worn as an accent or statement piece. You either pair that bold Ankara item with a solid color like Nneka did below. Or you can wear the clothes made from solid colors with a touch of Ankara fabrics. This is a more subtle look but the print still enhances your look. You can also add accessories made from Ankara like the envelope clutch purse Nneka is rocking.
