Roadtrips & Reflections

by

Hello darlings,

Today’s post was initially supposed to be about about traveling essentials when going on a short road trip. We went on a quick getaway to San Antonio and I was going to share details on how to dress for a road trip and how to drive in comfort with a Toyota Camry that is spacious, drives smoothly and is reliable. While this San Antonio trip was fun, the current situation with hurricane Harvey here in Houston took us on a different type of trip.

It was a scary situation which threatened our safety and in that moment we no longer cared for comfort or style, we just wanted to be safe. From being stuck in a flooding hotel to finally getting out but not being able to go home because our neighborhood was told to evacuate, it was scary and exhausting.  I’m so grateful we’re currently staying with my cousin and waiting to go home by Saturday. Also my prayers and thoughts have been with those who lost their lives and those families that have lost so much. It has been so beautiful and heart warming to see people come out and help each other through this difficult time which is a blessing. This is why I believe that no matter how dark the world gets or how much hatred and evil infects our nation, the humanity, the good and love in people will always triumph because God is love.

If you’re unable to physically help and you’d like to support the people of Houston, you can make monetary donations on the Go Fund Me page my organization Bosses in Heels (BIH) created (here) or Salvation Army in Houston (here). We are not a non-profit company but we have our BIH Care Box Project where we work with local charities/shelters, so 100% of your donations will go to them. A couple of people have asked why donate to smaller charities/shelters instead of donating to big organizations like the Red Cross or Goodwill and my answer is, your donations usually go further if you donate to local and smaller charities/shelters. Based on my research, sometimes bigger companies use some of those donations to take care of company logistics and the actual people in need get less of your donations. Hope this gives you more clarity and hope this moves you to help. Comment below if you have any questions or feedback and have a blessed day.

xoxo
